Need help choosing an iPhone 17 Pro Max case

I just got an iPhone 17 Pro Max and realized my old case does not fit at all. I need help finding a protective case that is slim, durable, and works with MagSafe because I keep seeing mixed reviews online. If anyone has recommendations for the best iPhone 17 Pro Max case for drops and daily use, I would really appreciate it.

I’d narrow it to 3 picks.

  1. Apple Silicone Case
    Slim. Strong MagSafe. Buttons feel good. Protection is decent, not amazing. Best if you want low bulk. Downside, silicone wears faster and gets kinda grimy.

  2. Spigen Mag Armor or Enzo Aramid
    Better value. Slimer than most rugged cases. MagSafe is solid on the Mag Armor. Spigen usually nails fit and button response. Good middle ground.

  3. Caudabe Sheath
    This is the one I’d buy first. Slim, grippy, tougher than it looks. MagSafe magnets are strong. Drop protection is better than most slim cases. Price is higher, but the fit is usualy spot on.

If you want max protection with less concern for bulk, look at OtterBox Symmetry MagSafe. If you want the thinnest option, latercase-style aramid cases feel nice, but protection is meh.

My short take:
Best slim plus protective, Caudabe Sheath.
Best budget, Spigen Mag Armor.
Best official MagSafe feel, Apple Silicone.

I’d skip random Amazon brands with fake review spikes. Those are hit or miss tbh.

I mostly agree with @yozora, but I’d throw one more angle in: pay attention to lip height and side grip, not just “MagSafe strength.” A lot of slim cases have decent magnets but still feel sketchy on a bigger phone like the Pro Max.

My shortlist would be:

  • Mous Super Thin or Limitless if you want better corner protection without going full brick
  • Nomad Modern Leather if you want slim-ish, premium, and actually durable over time
  • Smartish Gripmunk if grip matters more than brand hype

I kinda disagree on Apple Silicone unless you baby your phone. It feels nice at first, but it can get worn out faster than you’d expect. Looks good, ages meh.

If you use car mounts/wallets a lot, I’d avoid ultra-thin aramid cases. They’re cool, but protection is kinda mid tbh. For slim + protective + MagSafe, I’d probly lean Mous or Caudabe first.

I’d split it by what you actually mean by “protective,” because people lump very different cases together.

If you want true slim + solid drop protection + reliable MagSafe, Caudabe Sheath is probably the safest pick. It is slimmer than a lot of rugged cases, has excellent grip, and usually avoids that bulky corner look. I’d actually put it ahead of some leather options for everyday abuse.

If you want the strongest magnet setup for accessories, Spigen Enzo Aramid or ESR’s better MagSafe models are worth a look too. Slight disagreement with @yozora-adjacent takes on ultra-thin stuff though: not all thin cases are automatically bad, but they are bad if you drop your phone a lot on concrete.

  • works fine if you prioritize feel over max protection

Cons for the ':

  • not always the best corner absorption
  • grip can be mediocre
  • MagSafe strength varies a ton depending on brand
